Teacher Suing Indiana District Over Being Atheist

A former teacher at an Elkhart County high school is suing the school district, saying he was fired because he's an atheist.

Kevin Pack was hired to teach German at Northridge High School in 2013. According to a lawsuit filed in federal court Wednesday, the school's former principal Gerald Rasler asked faculty to pray with him before meetings and meals. Pack felt offended and didn't pretend to pray, which the lawsuit says Rasler noticed.

The Elkhart Truth reports the lawsuit also says Rasler asked Pack about his religious beliefs and political leanings during a job interview.

Pack was fired in April. Middlebury Community Schools Superintendent Jane Allen says Pack was let go for his poor teaching performance. The district had not responded in court as of Friday morning.
