Theft From Employer Results In Multiple Charges

A Warsaw woman is charged with five counts of theft after allegedly stealing $17,480.50 from her employer’s cash registers over the course of the last three years.

Rachael A. Ormsby, 47, of 509 Alward St., Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 8:20 a.m. Sunday on four Level 6 felony theft charges and one Class A misdemeanor charge of theft.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Aug. 14 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, Ormsby was a manager at North Pointe Cinemas. Another employee brought it to the theater’s attention that Ormsby was voiding large amounts of money from registers during her shifts, starting in 2016. During 2016, Ormsby allegedly conducted voids for a total monetary loss of $2,216; for $3,782.75 in 2017; $7,186.50 in 2018; and from Jan. 1 through May 31, 2019, $4,087.50. Ormsby made two final cash-outs totaling $207.75 on June 3.

The cinema director confronted Ormsby on June 12 and fired her. Court papers state she later called her former employer and asked if she could make payments for the voided transactions to avoid legal action.

Ormsby was being held on a $10,000 bond. She’s set to appear for an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Aug. 29.
