WARSAW — An intense one-week period of road work begins today in downtown Warsaw.

Norfolk Southern Railroad will begin construction on east-west RR crossings on Center and Main streets, which is expected to continue through Friday.

Detours are set up for both roads.

Work on the crossings is being done simultaneously to perform this work as quickly as possible.

Motorists should expect some delays, but city officials say the crossings are greatly needed and necessary.

The other project

Another new road project also begins Monday. Public Works Superintendent Dustin Dillon said the work on four downtown road segments will be done in phases.

The first phase will begin Monday on Center Street from North Detroit Street to Indiana Street, just west of the RR project.

After the Center Street work, crews will then focus jointly on Lake and Main streets before shifting to Fort Wayne Street.

Dillon said he expects the work will be completed on Monday, Oct. 26.

Work on Lake Street will stretch from Center to Main streets.

Work on Main Street will be from Lake to Buffalo streets.

Work on Fort Wayne Street will stretch from Detroit to Buffalo streets.

The city is offering free parking in a lot on the southeast corner of Indiana and Main streets to help offset the temporary removal of parking spots along some of the roads.

The combination of projects starting at the same time came after the railroad company notified the city of its plans to do the work at a specific time.
