MENTONE — A truck driver from Howe was hospitalized after his semi-truck became disabled on railroad tracks at the corner of SR 19 and  SR 25 in Mentone.

Dispatchers were alerted to the collision shortly before 5 a.m.

The driver, 60-year-old Lonnie R. Guyton, was headed west on 25 and tried to turn left, but missed the road, and his truck became disabled on the tracks.

An eastbound Norfolk Southern train then collided with the truck, which quickly caught fire and was engulfed in flames.

The make and model of the semi is unknown due to the severity of the fire, according to a news release from Kosicuko County Sheriff’s Office.

Guyton was airlifted from the scene to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office FACT Team.
