A train crash late Wednesday night in Noble County took the life of a Warsaw man.

Officials with the Noble County Sheriff’s Office say they received a call about the crash around 10:52 PM at the crossing on West Perry Road, northwest of Ligonier, involving a car and an Amtrak train.

Police say the vehicle, driven by 41-year old William Sanford, was westbound on Perry Road, when he attempted to cross the tracks in front of the train and was then struck.

Sanford was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no injuries reported on the train, and the incident remains under investigation.
