Warsaw Pedestrian Struck By Jeep

According to the media release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, a Warsaw man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle north of Warsaw, in Kosciusko County. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel responded to a 9-1-1 call of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning near the location of County Road 150 West. Officers initially located 22 year old Michael C. Keener of Warsaw lying in the roadway with severe injuries.  Keener was immediately transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne by Multi-Township E.M.S. in critical condition.  Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigation team members stated that initial investigations concluded that Keener had reportedly been walking southbound on County Road 150 West when 46 year old Darrell E. Young of Warsaw approached southbound driving his 2002 Jeep Liberty.  Young stated that he did not see Keener until the very last minute due to the predominantly dark clothing that he was wearing.  Young also stated that Keener appeared to be crossing the roadway, at which point; he attempted to swerve but still struck him.  Young’s vehicle continued across County Road 150 West, striking a utility pole on the eastside of the roadway before coming to rest.  Young was not injured in the crash. Officers stated that the crash is still under investigation pending legal blood test results as mandated by state law.
