Students, school officials and other various officials involved with the Student Activity Center at Warsaw Community High School officially opened the facility Wednesday morning.

Dr. David Hoffert spoke before the ribbon cutting, recognizing and thanking everyone that was involved with the construction of the facility over the past six years. Hoffert says the facility is an “incredible asset for the community.”

Hoffert went on to say that the facility has already been giving the students a space to have their activities, but the community is also welcome to host their events within the space.

The high school has already been booking out space for months to come and the interest has been flowing in. Hoffert says events are already planned through next May.

The booking of space is based on what Hoffert calls a three-tiered system on what type of events would take priority. At the top are student activities, giving them the time to finish practices or other events. Second are groups that impact students, such as community organizations, and third are outside organizations those who want to rent out the space for their events.

The 59,500-square foot facility features a 200-meter indoor competition track, secure entry to the Warsaw Area Career Center, flexible classroom space, team rooms, long jump and pole vault pits, four full multi-purpose courts, court markings for multiple sports and activities, and public restrooms.

According to the brochure that was given out at the open house, it states, “Fine arts activities, academic competitions, athletic tournaments and school clubs all have a new home in the activity center. The design specifically emphasizes flexibility for multiple uses by the school and community groups.”

“This new facility also provides our community with open fitness hours for track and court usage, as well as community events,” the brochure goes on to say.

The ceremony was supposed to include guest speaker Bill Rodgers, but due to illness, he postponed his appearance until Wednesday, October 16th at 1:00 PM.
