Weekend winter storm dumps upwards of ten inches

Recap of snow reports from the January 30th-31st storm. (Data by the NWS North Webster office)

We finally got that big snow, and some are still digging out from the weekend.

Heavy snow dumped anywhere from five to ten inches of heavy, wet snow throughout the area Saturday afternoon and into Sunday.

The National Weather Service office out of North Webster had an official report of 5.4 inches, while their other two main reporting sites, had some varying amounts. Fort Wayne International Airport reported 7.6 inches of snow, while South Bend International had 5.1 inches of the white stuff.

Cooperative observers from Kosciusko County varied from four inches south of Syracuse to as much as 8.5 inches on the north end of Chapman Lake. Seven inches was the magic number at many sites in surrounding counties.

While another snow storm is not on the horizon, an arctic air mass is expected to bring in well below normal temperatures late this weekend into early next week, where overnight lows could fall below zero and daytime highs not getting out of the teens.
