A Winona Lake resident was honored as the June Veteran of the Month at the Kosciusko County Commissioner’s meeting on Thursday.

72-year old James Horn is a veteran of the US Navy, beginning basic training in 1968. Horn attended submarine school and played in the Naval band. His first duties began following graduation in 1969 in San Diego and received orders for a submarine at Pearl Harbor.

Horn would spend time on the sub called “The Gudgeon” for some time before returning home to Plymouth after his father fell ill. After his father’s passing, Horn worked in Warsaw and attended Grace College and after graduating, worked for Group Dekko for 28 years.

Horn is married and lives with his wife in Winona Lake.
