Alcohol and Tobacco Commission members Elim Smith, Dan Wood and excise officer April Tackett approved one retail beer and wine license renewal; one beer, wine and liquor license transfer of ownership, as well as several license renewals at their meeting Thursday.

Elizabeth Thompson appeared before the board asking for a beer and wine retailer license renewal extension. She said she will be the sole owner of an unopened business at 206 S. Broadway St., Mentone.

“I purchased the building at 204 S. Broadway and decided it would be too small,” she said. In October, she bought the 206 S. Broadway property and is waiting for construction estimates with an opening planned for summer 2021.

The board approved the extension of the license.

Yavin Bamnolkar, president and secretary of Liora and Bandit LLC, appeared before the board for a beer, wine and liquor license transfer of ownership for Hunter’s BBQ Restaurant and Catering, 204 E. State St., Etna Green.

Bamnolkar noted that he also owns a restaurant-bar in Wolcottville.

Daniel Richcreek, owner of Tippy Creek Winery, 2520 N 200E, Leesburg, applied for a new beer retailer license. Tackett asked where the orange sign announcing the license application was posted and Richcreek, surprised by the question, said he didn’t know.

Tackett said, “That’s because you didn’t post one.”

The signs are to be in plain sight 10 days before the license hearing and commissioners tabled the license hearing to the April 2 meeting.

Tackett noted that wineries can sell beer now. She advised Richcreek there is a $2 charge for the sign, and when he pays that fee the sign will be issued and must be posted where the public can see it from outside his building.
