City Hears South Side Drainage Study Report

Warsaw City Council Monday heard a presentation on the city’s southside drainage study.
The study was conducted by Christopher Burke Engineering. Jason Durr, senior civil engineer, and Josh Corwin, engineer, gave the presentation on the study.
The city had the engineer firm develop a report to identify and address flooding and water quality concerns and to find ways to reduce existing drainage and stormwater problems.
The study area is north of CR 200S between Ind. 15 and the wetland between Country Club Road and County Farm Road. The study is focused on areas lying within the watersheds of Kelly Pond and Eagle Creek.
Corwin said the goals of the study were to analyze flooding improvements and find ways for the city to implement low-impact infiltration practices.
The flooding solution for the Eisenhower basin in Eisenhower Park west of Ranch Road is to enlarge the basin and do storm sewer improvements along Baker Street to the east.
The residential stormwater goal is to enlarge storm sewer along Pieta Street and initiate a citywide rain barrel program.
To improve the Kelly Pond water quality in Kelly Park east of Ranch Road, the goal is to reduce flooding and install native vegetation.
The solution suggested for the Leedy Street storm sewer along Leedy and Latta streets is to increase the storm sewer line from 15 to 36 feet.
High priorities are Eisenhower basin improvements and residential storm improvements.
Community meetings will be July 30 at city hall at noon, 4 and 6 p.m. to go over the study. The meetings will last 30 to 45 minutes.
