Claypool RR Crossings Closing For Repairs

CLAYPOOL – At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Claypool Town Council heard updates on the upcoming summer festival and railroad crossing closures.

From June 1-10, Norfolk Southern is replacing crossing gates and installing new rails along the curved track in town. Crossings at Main, Section and Calhoun streets and Graceland Avenue will close.

During this process, the Clay Street crossing will remain open for access to the south side of town.

In new business, the summer festival will be June 18. Main and Railroad streets will be closed from 1 to 7 p.m. for the event. The theme is red, white and blue and parade entry forms are available at the post offices in Claypool and Silver Lake.

Someplace Saloon owner Kenneth Archer provided an event schedule. There will be a fireman’s breakfast at 8 a.m., with the parade beginning at 11 a.m. at Claypool Elementary School. From 1 to 3 p.m., there will be a car show on Main Street and a tractor show on Railroad Street. From 3 to 6 p.m., the band Blues Deville will be performing.

In other business:

• The town is looking to hire a subcontractor to mow unkempt lawns in town. Owners are being held accountable for not mowing or maintaining properties.

• Town Marshal Ben Sanders reported 175 calls for service and 192 reserve hours this month.
