Elkhart police are warning you about a recent rash of “skimming” taking place at credit card terminals like ATMs.
Skimmers are card readers placed on real terminals to steal credit or debit card information when a card is swiped. Sometimes, a camera is placed nearby to catch pin numbers.
Elkhart police suggest you:
- Look for signs of tampering
- Pull on the card reader and keypad to make sure there’s not a skimmer in place
- Cover the keypad when you enter a pin
- Avoid stand-alone ATMs
- Frequently check your bank and credit card accounts
