A coaching legend in Kosciusko County is stepping down.

Jim Kessler’s 42nd season as Head Coach of the Grace College Men’s Basketball program is his last.

Kessler made the announcement at a press conference at the Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center on Monday.

“I’ve run hard, I’ve done my best to finish strong, and its now time to pass the baton to the next Lancer coach,” he said.

He’s won almost 800 games and led the Lancers to the 1992 NAIA Division II National Championship.

Kessler is a 1970 Grace graduate who was inducted into the college’s Athletic Hall of Fame in its initial class in 2008, and also is in the halls of fame of the NAIA and NCCAA.

In 2005 he received the Pete Thorn Award, and in 2006 he received the National Association of Basketball Coaches Guardians of the Game National Award for Service for his contributions to the community.

Assistant Coach Scott Moore has been selected to be Kessler’s replacement.
