Local Students To Travel To Fort Wayne For Shrine Circus

Hundreds of local students will travel by bus to the 70th annual Shrine Circus Jan. 22 in Fort Wayne.
Kosciusko County Shrine Club is sponsoring the trip in conjunction with the Mizpah Shrine Temple, according to Tony Ciriello, Kosciusko County Shrine Club president.
There will be 1,198 third-grade students and 184 personnel who will take the trip to the circus, Ciriello said.
Students from all elementary schools who are third graders in Warsaw Community School district, Wawasee, Tippecanoe Valley, Whitko, and Triton school corporations and Sacred Heart  and Warsaw Christian Schools will attend.
Personnel who will ride the buses are classroom teachers, aides, field trip chaperones and Shrine members.
The 36 school buses will leave Big R in Warsaw at 9:15 a.m. and be escorted by 27 police and fire personnel from Kosciusko County.
They will head down U.S. 30 and pick up buses in Pierceton and Larwill before arriving at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Ciriello said Kosciusko County Shrine Club has been sponsoring the trip to the circus for 69 years.
“If you think about kids anywhere there are kids who will never in their life get an opportunity to go to an event like this, whether their families can’t afford it or a number of reasons,” Ciriello said. “Our club decided to bring a day of joy to a child’s life.”
There will be students from 18 counties going to the circus on Jan. 21 and 22.
“Our area has the largest entourage of students to go to the circus,” Ciriello said.
