Man Dies Competing In Triathlon

Tragedy for a man seeking to get in better shape at an Elkhart triathlon event. Toby DeWeese had lost 100 pounds in the course of the last two years, inspired by his family's history of heart disease. The Elkhart Truth reports that the 55 year-old had challenged his brother Todd DeWeese, from Tennessee, to run the Elkhart Ideal Beach Triathlon with him. Toby collapsed while bicycling in the second part of the race. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. An autopsy performed on Sunday concluded DeWeese died of coronary artery disease. The Triathlon event was a fundraiser put on by Elkhart General Hospital, supporting the Ribbon of Hope campaign. That's a support ministry for cancer patients affiliated with the hospital.
