Man Shot and Killed By Police in Huntington

The Indiana State Police are investigating a police-involved shooting that took place in Huntington on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say deputies with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office were called out to conduct a welfare check on a man, who was believed to be suicidal and possibly armed with a handgun. Officers were able to find the man walking on the north side of Yeoman Park around 1 PM. Once contact was made, the man took off from police and a pursuit on foot began.

During the pursuit, ISP says there was an exchange of gunfire with one of the officers, and the suspect was shot during that exchange. The man died from his injuries at the scene.

The man’s identification, along with the officers involved, are all being held pending further investigation by detectives and review by the Huntington County Prosecutor’s Office.
