NIPSCO: Keep snow and ice off meters and away from exhaust vents

NIPSCO is reminding customers to keep their electric and natural gas meters free of snow and ice.

The utility says though meters are designed to withstand winter weather, heavy or hard-packed snow and ice, falling icicles or water dripping from a roof and freezing on the meter could create potential safety hazards.

They also remind homeowners to clear snow and ice from fresh air and exhaust vents to prevent the buildup of toxic fumes and carbon monoxide.
