Safety around railroad crossings will be a big theme around Warsaw next week.

Rail Safety Week starts on the 22nd and goes through the 28th. The week encourages residents and travelers to reflect on their own habits and make changes to protect their lives and the safety of train crew members.

Warsaw Police Public Information Officer Brad Keller says you should be looking for trains at crossings even if the signals aren’t flashing; never try to beat the train; avoid distractions while approaching crossings; never stop your vehicle on train tracks; and remember that train tracks are private property and you could get arrested just for being on them.

This is the second year that the city will be promoting Rail Safety Week.
