Senate candidate Todd Rokita in Warsaw on Saturday

Kosciusko County voters will get their first opportunity of 2018 to check out one of the U.S. Senate candidates Saturday when Rep. Todd Rokita hosts a meet-and- greet in Warsaw.

Rokita, who represents the 4th District that includes Lafayette, will be at Mad Anthony’s, 113 E. Center St., beginning at 1:45 p.m. to meet with the public.

The Republican Senate primary already includes six declared candidates vying for a chance to unseat incumbent Democrat  Sen. Joe Donnelly.

The Senate race is viewed by political insiders as an interesting Senate race to watch in 2018 because Donnelly is one of the few Democrat incumbents serving in a Republican-dominated state who is up for election. The Observer.com lists it in the top five most critical senate races.

Other Republican candidates who have declared include U.S. Rep. Luke Messer, who represents Indiana’s 6th District; Mike Braun,  a former state representative and businessman from Jasper; Andy Horning, an Owen County resident who ran for the same seat in 2012 as a Libertarian;  Andrew Takami, a college administrator from New Albany; and Mark Hurt, an attorney from Kokomo.
