Two people were injured in a motorcycle crash Thursday night just outside of Leesburg.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office says they received the call just after 10 PM regarding the crash along County Road 700 North, just east of Harper Road.

Injured in the crash was the operator of the motorcycle, 63-year old Douglas Protzman of Leesburg and 36-year old Ericka Steele of Akron, Ohio.

Investigators say Protzman was driving the 2002 Harley Davidson eastbound along E CR 700 North, when for unknown reasons, the motorcycle left the north side of the roadway, on a curve, ejecting both riders on the embankment.

Protzman was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with multiple injuries, and Steele was taken to the same hospital with head and neck injuries.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation and is pending toxicology results.
