Two IU scholars get $150K for Indiana history app, website

Two Indiana University scholars have landed $150,000 in federal funding for a project to update and expand a phone app on Indiana history.

Jennifer Guiliano and Rebecca Shrum are associate professors of history at IUPUI. They’ll use their funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a project called “Discover Indiana II.”

They’ll develop new content for a Discover Indiana phone app and website with images, facts and virtual tours on Indiana history, including Indianapolis’ long-ago jazz scene along Indiana Avenue.

Their work will be done in partnership with 28 cultural heritage institutions from around the state.

Guiliano and Shrum were among four IU researchers who recently landed a total of $240,000 during a round of NEH funding that awarded nearly $15 million for some 250 projects nationwide.
