Indiana State Police are investigating after a 2-year-old was found dead in a car submerged in floodwaters.

Authorities responded to a call on Wabash County Road 935 South, east of State Road 13 Thursday afternoon.

A 22-year-old woman had to be rescued from the water after escaping her car, but she was unable to get her son out. Indiana conservation divers located the car in eight feet of water, where the toddler was found inside.

Initial reports indicate the car had passed a high water sign and drove into flood water where the car was carried and submerged by the water’s current.
