Warsaw could be getting two new electric vehicle charging stations in the future.

A Memorandum of Understanding was approved between the city and the Michiana Area Council of Governments during Monday’s Board of Works meeting.

City Planner Justin Taylor says Warsaw applied for a grant last October with MACOG, which is through the Volkswagen Emissions Settlement, which will fund up to $18,000 of the project.

Taylor also mentioned a corporate sponsorship, who remained unnamed during the meeting, could also cover another $10,000 of the project cost. Overall, it’s expected to cost $30,000.

Locations have not been determined yet for the stations, but Taylor says ideal locations would be near downtown and near a park. The stations would be offered to the public for free use for the first two years under grant stipulations, then a fee structure could be established by the city.
