SOUTH BEND — A 47-year-old Warsaw man, Gary Schmucker, was found guilty Wednesday of possessing a firearm as an unlawful drug user.
The conviction follows a two-day jury trial in the US District Court in northern Indiana.
Schmucker was arrested in 2024 and charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon and possession of methamphetamine following an incident south of Atwood in which he forced two people into a basement while carrying a loaded AR-style rifle under the influence of methamphetamine.
The two people were able to eventually flee the residence.
One witness told authorities that Schmucker had become “increasingly dangerous” since he began using meth.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 25.
