Voters in the Wawasee School District turned down a tax referendum that was brought forward on Tuesday’s ballot.

Roughly 64 percent of voters were not in favor of the referendum, which was asking residents to raise the property tax rate up to 28.5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the district.

The funds that would have been sought from the increase in the tax rate would support instruction, school safety and career and technical education.
