Webster Man Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase

A North Webster man is facing charges after he led police on a 130 mph chase and then crashed and fled.

Travis Michael Mrozinski, 25, of 310 N. Hickory St. East, North Webster, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:42 a.m. Nov. 20 and faces charges for resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor; two charges for failure to stop after a vehicle accident, Class B misdemeanors; and reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Nov. 24 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, at approximately 7:50 a.m. Nov. 20 a Syracuse police officer was on patrol and observed a white Subaru speeding north on North Huntington Street.

The Subaru then drove around railroad crossing arms that were down at the railroad crossing at North Huntington and Medusa streets, barely avoiding an oncoming train, according to court papers.

The officer then began to follow the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, when the vehicle turned on North Dolan Street and accelerated, at times driving in excess of more than 130 mph and disregarding signs and passing other vehicles in no passing zones.

The pursuit continued into Elkhart County, according to the affidavit, where the vehicle crashed and damaged a tree at 6226 CR 15.

Mrozinski then fled on foot, before ultimately being apprehended.

According to court records, Mrozinski’s driving privileges were suspended at the time of the crash with a prior judgment against him for driving while suspended within 10 years. He has a prior judgment for driving while suspended in Kosciusko County and is currently on probation for it.

His bond was set at $5,250.
